Secret Colours Rule, OK?

10 Dec

Secret Colours released their new single, “In the Absence” for free download on their bandcamp page this November.   Just a few months since the release of their cover of “Tomorrow Never Knows,”  Secret Colours waste no time in re-demonstrating their reverence for Revolver.  The guitar lightly fades in followed by the slow, bouncing bass, comparable to McCartney’s in “Rain.”  Lead singer, Tommy Evans borrows from Lennon’s drug induced contemplations in “Tomorrow Never Knows” as he whispers, “Close your eyes, open your mind, let it float to you.”

The b-side, “Carry My Soul” has the band treading through a much different terrain.   Through its religious content (or at least its mention of “Lord”) and its rootsy minimalism, Secret Colours, show that they are no strangers to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s “Howl.”

Secret Colours will be playing a FREE show at Empty Bottle on Monday, December 13th. 9:30 p.m.
